Short post today, because not much explanation is needed....

Big oil lobbyists need to be stopped. They are currently trying to halt clean energy progress being made in Congress. Message your senator to stop this:

Green Tips

(how could i forget!?!) invest in reusable shopping bags. recycle any plastic and/or paper bags you have left over. on a normal shopping trip, two or three of these reusable bags are sufficient for a pretty large haul.

THIS would have been nice to know before we spent a bunch of time and money sealing our windows to keep the bugs out.

ever bent the rim on your car? once replaced, try filling the bent rim (on its side, of course) with your compost soil and throwing a few tomato plants in. tomato plants are pretty, smell great, and fill your belly.

the sunchip challenge: the new bags are 100% compostable. loud, but cool.

(awesome tip from an awesome friend) put shampoo bottles filled with water in the back of your toilet - even with a water-efficient toilet, you can cut back on water use every time you flush! (don't forget: if it's yellow....let it mellow!)

stop using plastic water bottles! try getting a BPA free nalgene bottle (and a water filter if you really need it). saves $ and the Earth.

go paperless where possible! any bill you can receive through email or an online account saves HUGE amounts of paper each year!

learn more about and consider the possibilities of reusing/recycling grey water

utilize your local recycling opportunities - even if you don't have pick up, like us, there is most likely a recycling center nearby (south west roanoke county dwellers: try cycle systems, inc.)

simple stuff: turn lights off in rooms you aren't in; unplug small electronics when not in use; line-dry during warmer months (late march through early november); turn your thermostat down during the winter and up during the summer (and turn it OFF when you aren't around, i.e., during long trips away from home).

if you are able, bike or walk to places that are under a couple of miles away. and take the train or bus, if possible, to destinations that are less than 100 miles away.
